You NEVER read what I wrote about action.
Thu Nov 9, 2017 11:45am

I never said that we should ignore human activities that damage the environment. We should not wait to act, but not abandon Common Sense either.

Common Sense tells us that putting out all of the pollution, degrading the soil that grows our food, depleting the ocean of fish, cutting dow the World's forests, etc cannot possibly be of benefit to either Humanity or to the Earth.

It is prudent to take the middle course, regardless of the cause (if it can be attributed at all). We must work to lower pollution as quickly as is compatible with economic stability. We must not follow the extreme program of the alarmists who would have us make radical changes to our economy and infrastructure.

Another thing to consider. It is big planet. The human infrastructure is so colossal that nothing we could begin now would have measurable effects in less than several decades.

So, I ask you, what practical changes should we make beginning now?

Please don't waste my time telling me that we need to deploy solar energy because 74% of all new electric power generation capacity in 2015 was solar. However, the installed base is so gigantic, that decades will be required before solar energy becomes more than half of out total generating capacity.

Solar energy is covered. Don't bring it up. We are already proceeding full tilt on solar energy.

Now, what do you propose?

Myself, I propose that the most important thing to do to save the Planet Earth and Humanity is to lower the birth rate world wide. This is already happening, but should be accelerated. What else should we do?

The fact that the issue of human causation of climate change is unknown and probably unknowable does not mean that we continue to act foolishly.

  • And that is from the expert analysts who are in the best position to know. How long do you suppose we would have to wait to act before we can't avoid catastrophic harm and suffering? Amadeus
