Yes, the Jews really ARE the descendants aboriginal inhabitants of what is now Israel. Only the female Ashkenazi line is of non original Jewish ancestry, and they married Jewish men and converted. The rest are, in both Y and X ancestry, nearly 100% Israelite. Our ancestors were living in what is now the State of Israel more than 1000 years before the Arabs emerged from Arabia for the first (pagan) series of conquests.

But, what about the Canaanites? Didn't the Israelites kill or expel them all?

No. Despite the Mosaic injunction to maintain separateness from the Canaanites, Jebusites, Moabites, and other local inhabitants, the Hebrew Bible makes it clear that the Israelites intermarried and merged with the local inhabitants. Even King David was of Moabite ancestry as clearly recited in the Book of Ruth. When that same David conquered Jerusalem from the Jebusites, he did not massacre the inhabitants, nor even enslave them. This is clear from the story of the acquisition of the Temple site. He purchased that site for money, and one does not purchase land from corpses or slaves.

In plain language: We were there first.
