Hi Kim

Apology for writing 43-VIIIC it is actually 433/VIII C. I have this information from an old post of the French Egyptologists Marc Gabolde which he sent to the original but now defunct Amarna group. For 3 months at the end of 2000 he went on that list to promote and defend his ideas. I keep print out of his posts. In part of one post he set up an observation rule and then used this to argue in support of his idea that Nefertiti (and not Kiya) was the mother of Tutankhaten. The relevant extracts are as follows.

There is a kind of rule on the official monuments at Amarna that the children of Nefertiti are never depicted with the child of Kiya and when Kiya is depicted, the family of Nefertiti is never pictured. The only exception is the tomb of Huya, but it is not an official monument, but a private one, and Baketaten is carefully separated from the other king's daughter.
Another block from Hermopolis seems also to give a clue Roeder 433/VIII C. A boy is seated over the knee of an adult. The kilt is a good indication that he is a male. Near his knees appears what is probably the skull of another child. On the breast of the adult, a curve could be part of another child. The whole scene would have then depicted an adult (king or queen) with three children, one among them being a male.

Hi Joe Jan Bailey has questioned the source of the reference to a Hermopolis block showing a male child. I have checked my own notes and I do not find any reference to an article - I first read about ... more

Hi I now have an image of block 433/VIIIC, as well as the other images from Heliopolis. (I can send off line to you Joe) Sorry, but it would take a whole lot of imagination to make the squiggles into ... more

Hi Jan Thanks for the picture. Well I for one can not make much out of it. Presumably those who have done extensive work on the style of royal depictions in the Amarna pictures can make more sense... more

Hi Joe Many thanks for the correct plate reference. I also thank you for re-posting Gabolde's thoughts on this, which (to me) make perfect sense. Although it is not explicit any where that Baketaten... more
