Marianne,

I was already writing my reply when you posted your 17027 and 17028.

Thank you for your further comments. However, I still can't see why Smenkhkare can't be Tutankhamun's father, even if he doesn't appear in among the latter's burial goods. To say he was an usurper is dangerous: Smenkhkare married Akhenaten's eldest daughter who was influent enough to trade correspondence with Burnaburiash, and even received gifts from him (something that kings do to kings, not to princesses or queens!). If Smenkhkare usurped the throne and married Meritaten afterwards or before, she would have protection behind her back, especially if her mother ran out to Memphis with her only male issue.

You also write "In his list of "heirlooms", Reeves mentions the sequins and his attribution there is "Ankhkheperure,Meritaten [?]"." I've read about this but I never found anything, at least not among Tut's treasure (I check this link on the matter http://www.griffith.ox.ac.uk/gri/carter/HomePage.html). Jugding by Meritaten's position at court, and how Burnaburiash treated her in correspondences, I feel compelled to identify her with Neferneferuaten. Carter 001k is on the way, so something must have happened to Meritaten, otherwise she wouldn't have died as a Great Royal Wife and be treated like a monarch by the Babylonian king. Whatever the case, I see her as Dakhamunzu and Akhenaten's widow; if it can be proved that Nefertiti was Neferneferuaten, then Nefertiti wrote those letters to Hatti.

Thank you for your further remarks,

Regards,
Jaime

Reeves wrote that there are 47 sequins of the same type and all from the same die that were on a garment. The sequins have a double cartouche, with one saying "Ankhkheperure" and the other... more
