Solar eclipse of 1207 BC helps to date pharaohs

So what happened to the idea that this "Sun standing still" was not a time marker, that these events occurred at the time of the solstice?

A solar eclipse would place the Moon and the Sun in the same section of the sky, but here the line appears to suggest the Sun is in the East (over Gibeon) and the Moon is in the west (over the Valley of Ajalon).

Regards, Jon S.

“In other words, the text is referring to a solar eclipse, when the sun stops shining,” they said. “As a solar eclipse can only occur when the moon is directly between the earth and the sun, the moon itself is not visible, and so it is not reflecting sunlight to the earth – like the sun, it has ‘stopped shining’ as well.”"

For years I have assumed that the celestial mechanics of a Solar eclipse requires, in every case, that our Sun is obscured as our Moon 'passes' across the face of the Sun. It seems to me, in all... more

Indeed, perhaps Humphreys and Waddington did understand the celestial mechanics of a Solar eclipse. However, I'm quite sure that they would have no idea of why a scribe/historian could divine the... more

In my opinion,---You were correct to place the reign of Merneptah in 1207BCE. Doing so would be, I think, in the year of the death of Amuwanda III, 2685AM, 1207BCE, and ac. Suppilluma III, and 31st... more
