Hi Tory

My understanding is that this idea that Tutankhamun’s Y-DNA belonged to the R1b1a2 hyplogroup is based on a close-up of a blurry computer screen shot of coloured peaks seen in the 2010 Discovery Channel program “King Tut Unwrapped”. The program itself never discussed or commented on any supposed Y-DNA (and if any was recovered it has never been acknowledged by the Egyptian authorities). The Y-DNA story was put out in 2011 by IGENEA, a Swiss genealogy company, whose source is the above screen shot. Trouble is this screen shot was not from the actual real time analysis of the results but is a later re-enactment of the event for the TV program. So what is actually seen in the re-enacted screen shot could be any old DNA sample taken from somebody at some time and just cut into the documentary.

But what interest me more is your chronology and your commentary on the possible historical implications of such a (flawed and suspect) story. So now you have finally coming around to seeing Smenkhkare = Zannanza and Daḫumunzu = Neferneferuaten = Meritaten. You have long and hard opposed any such relationship or chronology. (Something I have championed ever since Marc Gabolde’s ideas became known to me).

Your chronology is still too low, even lower than the so called “Low Chronology” date for Ramesses 2 of 1279. Have a look at your 16 years for Seti 1. His highest recorded year date is year 9 and every one of these 9 years are attested at least more than once. After that nothing but year 1 Ramesses 2. (And you do not give Ramesses 2 his full reign which lasted 66 years and 2 months - and not to forget your totally unattested 12 year overlap between Amenḥotep 3 and Akhenaten).

Regards Joe

Hi all Since the reconstruction of the Y-DNA of the biological father of king Tutankhaten appears to have been "non-Egyptian" (haplogroup R1b1a2) isn't it just possible he is the son of the Hittite... more

Hi Joe Yes I accept the 12-year overlapping of Amenhotep III and IV. This is not the same thing as a co-regency. Let it go. Seti I had a restart in his year-count, so we will not find year dates... more

Oops--I wrote "blood type". I meant "haplogroup is found". The blood type is very rare in Egypt, according to a study done by Dr. Daoud Matta years ago,

The maternal DNA, not the Y-DNA, establishes that Tut was related to the members of Akhenaton's family. But the Y-DNA of Akhenaton and Amenhotep III is not R1b1a2 so Akhenaton cannot be Tut's father. ... more
