Marianne begins her post with:
"Somewhere in remote antiquity, there must have been a source...that said something like....somewhere along the line...this was probably abbreviated...."

Then Marianne says:
"It was at this point that Syncellus the Monk jumped in and wrote, as a commentary to this text "But, according to the present calculation, it follows that in this reign Moses was still young." By this he meant "Moses cannot have been 80 years old", as he thought Africanus meant this was when the lawgiver led the Hebrews on an exodus from Egypt."

IMHO, Marianne has offered speculations about speculations leading to a speculative conclusion. That's ok if we are formulating hypotheses for testing, but not ok if we are presenting the results of careful research. Logic is necessary, but not sufficient in itself, to reach valid conclusions, for the validity of conclusions derived through logical deduction rests upon the validity of the premise. Speculations are not valid premises from which to reach valid conclusions. Speculations are just that--speculations, interesting though they may be.
