I use my own name on this forum because

1) I Have nothing to hide

2) I stand behind everything I say

3) I am not ashamed for my thoughts to be seen on this forum under my own *real* name.

There used to be someone writing here regularly for a long time who claimed to be a scholar named "Kim Sargerson". However, if one did a Google on that name, nothing at all came up about the Ancient Near East connected with it or any discussion site except here. A bit strange that. Google my name! Now we get no names, unlikely names--whatever. Most reputable moderators of discussion lists insist upon people using their actual names and signing their posts, also giving the place or origin of the post. Now we get "Anonymous", making snide attacks on me as if he were "Mr. Academia", had accomplished something noteworthy there, and now thinks he [or she--who knows?] has the right to lecture to me in a patronizing fashion. So--Mr. Joe Baker--what do you see as fair about that? Shouldn't I--or anyone here--have the right to investigate such a person's own academic output in order to ascertain if such a stance is warranted? A bit hard to do when all one has is "Anonymous", isn't it? Isn't that the point of assuming such a cover?

You say, Joe, that you think this forum should continue and you are even willing to shell out from your own pocket to make sure it is. You even told someone to stop cross-posting within the last few days because what you say goes--in your own words. Since when does this forum have any rules?? In the years that I've been here, some of the worst sh*t that has ever been perpetrated on a discussion page has gone on right here. And don't tell me you don't know anything about the *mysterious* entities who have posted here. I don't spend all my time writing on fora. I actually do research--in which you've never been interested but that's neither here nor there to me. I think I do good work and you would probably be surprised at those who are interested in it. Those who aren't--fine. But, if I am to be put down by anybody here, I am going to know that person's own output and achievements. Or nothing. The couple sites I do discuss on are just breaks from constant reading, research. Truth be told, they are pretty annoying--except the one I run myself on FB and make sure is nonsense and games free.
