Dear Anonymous II

I know what you mean about the ad hominem attacks because I have experienced it myself - I have even just been the victim of one (by Marianne) apparently for the crime of not posting here for a while, which seems ridiculous, unless she was trying to impute that I am in fact one of the anonymi (I am not).

Yet those who are going to make these sorts of attacks will not stop, just because you are posting anonymously, as you have just evidenced. They will simply add the fact that you are doing so to the list of things to attack. Marianne seems to forget that she at one time posted to this forum under a pseudonym for her own reasons.

Clearly you see some value in this forum or you would not be posting to it - you can read the archived posts without having to. However your comment about "the difference between what an ancient scholar/chronographer believed to be so and what was actually so in reality" applies also the other literary sources for ancient history and to the many hypotheses, constantly revised, of modern day scholars and students of the ancient world. Luckily the question of what actually happened in year X of king Y of state Z is not the primary focus of this forum, but rather when was this year X and how does it fit into a relative framework, and can this framework be assigned to an approximate absolute date.

Being cryptic about your identity is one thing; being cryptic about what you are submitting as evidence is another. I can see no point to it whatever unless you are avoiding being explicit because of forthcoming publication of a new idea, but then that would tend to give away your identity as well...

Regards to all

Kim
