"Beer" is only a small village in Devon which has one hall built in 1958 called the "Mariners Hall"
It seems likely that this is where the film was shot as upon speaking to Mike Ransom from the hall it does indeed have a balcony as mentioned in the book. Mike is going to ask around if anyone remembers Johhny being there and the filming.
Also contacted the local papers to see if they could do a story on this.
