Chingford League - Race #1 - Hog Hill - Tues 4th October
Wed Sep 21, 2016 07:31
The winter season kicks on Tuesday 4th October with the first race of the Chingford League. The league is a mixture of Road and Cross Country races. This Tuesday first race is a ROAD race, at the Redbridge Cycle Centre (Hog Hill) as per previous years.
The venue and facility is very good, though the course is not illuminated we rely somewhat on the London glow and the moon. It's a good race to start the season, as this fixture appears twice (we race there again in November as well). You'll need you road shoes (NOT your spikes), your club vest and some pins.
As with last season, the MEN and WOMEN will run separately for the Hog Hill fixtures (although together for the other fixtures). This is because the numbers have increased in recent years which causes a backlog at the finish.
Venue: Redbridge Cycling Centre ('Hog Hill'). Times: Juniors U13: 7:30PM Senior Women and Juniors U15/U17: 7:30PM, (~5km) Senior Men Race 8:00PM, (~5km)
Travel: Nearest tube stations are Fairlop and Hainault on the Central Line. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=547291&y=191903&z=1&sv=547291,191903&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf Tube-Bus - alight at Hainult and take the 247 bus towards Romford and get out at 'Romford Road / Forest Road' just near the centre. Tube - Jog: It's about 1.5 miles from Fairlop tube to the cycling centre. Car: If anyone is travelling by car, please can they post it on the club noticeboard thread in order to share lifts - that will be very much appreciated. I suggest if you are driving, please don't leave the club any later than 6:30pm to get there in time for the senior women's race start.
Reminder: There is no led session at the club house on these race evenings so that as many runners as possible can support the race. Once again, please don't forget your club top, your ROAD trainers and some pins. There is changing a lockers + tea and cake at the venue.
Trophies: We have traditionally done well in the Chingford League against our local rival clubs and we hope to do again this season. The club's main XC focus will be the Metropolitan league and maintaining our hard-fought Men's and Women's positions in the top divisions. Club members are free to run in whichever leagues they choose but please do remember if your time is limited the priority should be Metropolitan league.
For this season, Joyce Berry has kindly agreed to be the captain for this series of races, (after the terrific job she did last year!) so I'm sure you will hear more from her over the season.
