Saturday 17th December - Ware Cup - Loughton 11am start
Tue Dec 13, 2016 22:25
This Saturday is the annual inter-club competition (mob match) at Loughton - the 'Ware Cup', dating back to the early 80’s. Traditionally we have been very strong in this competition - we are the men's trophy holders since 2011, but lost the Women's in the same year sadly. There was no race in 2012 due to a flooded course.. We retained the Men's and won the women's in the Dec 2013 event. We compete against other local clubs: Eton Manor, Orion and Loughton.
So, let's try and retain our trophies. Remember the race starts at 11am, not in the afternoon as previous years. Those worried about the Christmas shopping need not. The morning start means you can be finished by midday and in the warmth of Westfield Stratford by 12:30 should you so desire.
About the race... It's run like a mob match - ie team size is decided by the numbers that turn up on the day - so we need as many people as possible to be out there taking part. The race will feature all ages and abilities so whatever your standard you will fit in and make a difference. No pre-entry is required, please just show up in good time.
The course itself is a 5 mile (approx) cross country. Race HQ is the Loughton AC clubhouse on the recreation ground at the bottom of Roding Road.
Travel to Loughton By car: It's just off the M11 (At J5 turn onto the A1168 northbound towards Debden, 1st left onto Oakwood Hill, about 1 mile along you cross Roding Road at traffic lights - turn left down to the bottom - there is some parking available.) Anyone travelling by car PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU CAN OFFER A LIFT
By tube and on foot: Take the Central Line out to Loughton and a 10 min walk down to the clubhouse – I will check TFL nearer the time and post here if there appears to be any works on either the Central or Overground Line that weekend.
Come out of the station and turn immediately right down the footpath which will bring you out onto Roding Road. Turn right along Roding Road and follow it all the way down (straight over at the traffic lights) until you get to the recreation ground at the bottom.
Race starts at 11am and we'll need to get numbers issued and get everyone a warm up so aim to be there no later than 2. If anyone is driving and can offer lifts please post here – I suggest a 9:30am departure from the club
