A reminder about this Saturday's John Anstey Memorial 20 mile Road Race. It will take place solely within the park starting at 10:00am near the Royal Inn on the Park pub on Grove Road.
Expect it to be hard work mentally and physically - a long and repetitive 8 laps of the park's figure-of-8 circuit, but if you're running the London, Brighton, Manchester or Paris or any other marathon it is a good chance to improve mental strength and practice your pacing and nutrition strategies. There are trophies and Boswall League points up for grabs.
The course One straight (0.8 miles) + 8 laps of our figure-of-8 course (approx 2.4 miles). You don't have to run all 8 laps and you will get a time for each lap, so come along and run 2.5, 5, 7.5 if it suits you. It will test your pacing skills and the company is good for those who are running the full distance. We will put a few tables out to store your drinks and gels, should you wish to practice your re-fuelling plan.
Volunteers needed Volunteers are essential, without them there is no run. Like all club events we ask members to give some time to help a few times a year. For the 20 I already have 4 kind volunteers, but we need a few more to replace the initial shift, If I don't get sufficient there will be no lap times/splits I'm afraid.
Registering and Running Please get to the clubhouse to register and collect a number* by 9:30am at the latest - the start line is at the Royal Inn (~0.8 mile away), we will depart the club house to get there around 9:45 just before the 10:00 start.
Club members may invite a guest to run also (maximum one guest per member, the member should also be present).
Afterwards As usual, we plan to have tea & cake in the club hall. If you can't help out timekeeping, then maybe you could bring a cake or something nice to eat.
