Flowers Mile - Thursday 6th Sept - Starts 7pm

Hello all

I do hope the above date is in your diary. The club's annual winter championships kicks off with our shortest race (on the road) of the season. We always get a good turn out from juniors and some track athletes as well. Make sure you're at the clubhouse nice and early and registered by 6:45pm. This will give time for your to warm up and for the race to start as close to 7pm as possible (to allow for low light).

As usual we will need volunteers (at least 6) to help with timekeeping and marshalling. If we have insufficient volunteers on the night we will not be able to hold the event. Anyone who would like to come enjoy the racing from the sidelines - please offer your services by replying to this message or contacting me directly.

This is a great chance to see how you fare over the classic distance. The course record stood for a long time, set by Steve Mahon (who occasionally shows up at the club still) in 1986 but was broken by Paul Martelletti in 2012 who completed the course in 4mins 22. The women's record is held by former captain Holly Weir who set a time of 5m18s in 2011.

A special note about numbers
As we did in previous years, we will use the same number for ALL of the club champs races over the winter (1 mile, 3.5 mile, 5 mile XC, 10 mile and 20 mile) as this will make the results processing much more efficient. Please write your name on your allocated number then hand it back at the end of the race, we'll look after it until the next fixture.

Previous results
I pulled together previous results, some dating back to 1986! Check them out here:

For those who are newer to the club or interested in the history of the race please see the post below from Terry Adams, long time club member / coach and occasional competitor!;article=16581;title=VPHTHAC%20Noticeboard

See you on the 6th!
