Correlating these Surnames in Arisaig

Lachlan,

Thanks for the further information. The potential ages are such a range as to be not much use in themselves. More interesting is the birth in Arisaig. Looking at the Loch Ailort census data for 1841 in the CEM members' area, there are many MacInnes/is, MacD/u/ougal/d and Gil/ll/ies families. All three names only appear together at four locations in Arisaig - Ardnafuaran, Back of Keppoch, Polnish Lower and Rhu.

Archibald McDonald of Rhu owned the Lochsheil Estate and Eilean Shona in Moidart in the early 1800s http://www.moidart.org.uk/archives/landscapearchive.htm , and when later cleared, some tenants transferred to Moidart (see Pg 4 of Alasdair Roberts paper on Rhu http://www.moidart.org.uk/justoutside/morarchurch/Inverailort%20into%20Rhu.pdf ). So, if you are sure there is a Moidart connection, Rhu might be worth looking at. However, these correlations and connections only amount to speculation.

So, I'd suggest getting the Census data and seeing if any other details that you may have give you further clues of your place of origin.

And yes, we are wannabe Scots looking for answers. I don't know about NS, but in my home farming district in NSW we know all the connections to our local relatives even to 6th cousins (the website http://www.mcinnes-family-history.com is just an electronic expression of the phenomonal memories of my grandfather's generation, and the dogged recording of my father's generation). But our Scottish origins with a few exceptions, seemed to be a strange memory blank..., so therefore, this quest!
