from what I have heard, Cruise is set to play the Yul Brynner part (Chris) and Damon the Steve McQueen role (Vin).
I have the Magnificent Seven series on DVD and on the "Special Editio DVD" there is a documentary with Eli Wallach and James Coburn which is really very interesting. It has been a few years since I watched it, but as I remember, Coburn said he got the role after running into Robert Vaughn in a drug store in Hollywood. They were in an acting class together and were friends and Vaughn was very excited and told him how he had just tried out for and got a part in the Mag 7 and that Coburn should try out too as they would be good together. Coburn called his agent and told him he wanted to be in the movie and to get him a part and he did. Coburn stated he was still amazed to this (that) day that he received so much acclaim from that movie in which he only spoke about 7 words and received so many other roles (and became a big star) because of it.
Wallach was funny stating that prior to that time he had been acting on Broadway and had never been in a Western and couldn't see himself (as a New York born son of Jewish Polish immigrants) playing a Mexican bandit. He said he had little experience drawing a gun and the director kept getting upset at him as he would always look at his holster when he drew and replaced his gun in his gunbelt, but they left those scenes in the movie anyway as he could not do otherwise no matter how hard he tried.
Probably just one of the reasons why I'm not a casting director, but I could see Cruise as a Harry Luck character. Also, I don't really know these guys ages, but I'll bet they compare to the... more
Good points Harold. Also, we look at these movies from decades later, when our fond memory of the entire experience gauzes over all. If in the late 1950s Western-history buffs had been told that a... more
Kenny, Yesterday, I saw a couple of more items about the possible 7 remake. One claimed that Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman were in talks to be in the cast. At least Horst Buchholz won't be in it.... more
Speaking of whom, I just looked up M7 on Imdb and Bucholz is not listed in the cast. Shows his picture up above, but doesn't list him in the credits. Reason, Geraldo?
who ever was responsible for the listing doesn't like him any more than I do. HA! He doesn't come up until you hit the "full cast and crew" button and then there he is at the end. The credits at the... more
I simply can't see anybody playing Steve McQueen parts but Steve McQueen. It might go because so many young today can't equate with the original cast. They were men, playing men and they looked the... more
four or five years ago there was similar talk that a remake of THE WILD BUNCH was in the pipeline. If I remember correctly, it was going to be a present day version, not one taking place in the old... more
Sharon, I'm always ready for a good laugh! Here's hoping Tom's noggin is as smooth as a cue ball. Bald or not, I fear Cruise will be as convincing underneath a cowboy hat as he was as a vampire. His... more
whatever.... I just can't see a remake of MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.... Even the TV series was kinda funky to me.... Guess I'm not old fashioned, just OLD! LOL Did you attend Winter Range this year? I miss... more
