I am searching for information on the John Murrell Gang's operations near San Augustine Texas 1836. One of their members, a man named Eaton, robbed and murdered Georgia General Alexander Ware near Ware's land just west of San Augustine. Ware came to Texas in 1835 and served in Capt. Thomas S. McFarland's Company during the war for Texas independence. We have not located his grave-site.
Newspaper article: "Macon (GA), July 7—We are informed by a Mr. Clark, a gentleman recently from Texas, that General Alexander Ware, Formerly a resident of Fayette county (GA), in this state, was murdered in Veilon Zavalla Colony, about the last of May. He was traveling with a man by the name of Eaton, by whom he was shot and robbed of his money. Eaton was pursued into the United States, but it is not known whether he has been taken".
The Murrell gang was large in number and operated from Georgia to Texas and beyond. These men were NOT gentlemen outlaws.

Thank you.
