He's going to be okay... He has a nasty head injury on top of head from windshield glass breaking, and has multiple stitches closing it up and 3 staples to prevent the wide gash from opening if stitches let go... No internal injuries or head trauma other than the cut and a headache...

However, his lady friend was not so lucky... She has a badly broken leg and displaced hip with small bone fracture from the dashboard slamming into her... In surgery still... front and side airbags saved her from worse... They both spent the night in ICU but he was released this morning when tests showed no brain damage or swelling...

A woman ran a stop sign and slammed into him, head on, totaling both cars... She was injured too but we know nothing about her as of yet other than she is female. It was at a 4 way stop sign in middle of afternoon. He stopped and then proceeded to enter the intersection while the woman, across from him, ran the stop sign at a high speed and then tried to bang a left directly in front of him, miscalculated and slammed right into him head on, hitting slightly to the driver's side, totaling both cars...

He's 97 and so scared he'll be blamed simply because he's old in spite of witnesses who support his version of events. As it is, he is tested yearly to keep his license and has been since turning 90... He passes with flying colors as he's very youthful for his age, sees perfectly, has hearing aids the give him perfect hearing, and he has good reflexes equal to much younger men...

My niece lives near him in Florida, so he's with her now while Eunice is in surgery as he has to file claims, replace license taken by EMTs, and find his personal property they also took... She drove him home to fetch stuff and to file police reports too...

This is his car... That's him in the sun glasses behind the car in the first photo as my niece took him to see it.

I wish he didn't still drive because I'm always worried about this kind of thing with him being SO old, although he's got all of his marbles, does very well for himself, but, for last 6 months, does use a cane nowadays as he's not as steady on his feet as he used to be... I'm glad that Florida makes him be tested yearly to keep that license, but still... It's a huge worry...

States shouldn't take away driver's licenses automatically at certain ages, IMHO... But, they DO need to be very careful who they let keep them as too many accidents are caused by old people with slow reflexes as well as inexperienced young people and idjits who text or whatever while driving...

What do you think about older people driving IN GENERAL? (and please, NO personal attacks on my Dad, because according to him, as well as a few witnesses who came forward, it was NOT his fault and hopefully, that will be legally established when the investigation is completed)
