Murakami's Novels Are Something of an Acquired Taste

Some people acquire it, some don't.

Even the people who acquire the taste sometimes lose it. ;-)

Murakami's novels taste sorta like Magical Realism; kinda Kafkaesque in some ways, and with a dash of Rod Serling.

Murakami was born, raised and lives in Japan and writes for the Japanese market and though the novels are set in the present, there is a bit of culture shock to overcome.

If you're interested in giving him a read I'd recommend having a go at

which is I think a good place to start and determine if he leaves you hungry for more. ;-)
