That depends on the issue/topic

I have often jokingly been called the "ultimate optimist" by folks in my inner circle. If there's an upside, I'll find it. No matter how dark the day, I will find a spark of light in it and focus on that rather than curse the darkness or be swallowed up by it. Making lemonade from lemons is one of my specialties. Even so, I understand that it can be quite annoying to those who'd rather curse or fear it, but that's not my problem.

However, when push comes to shove, in situations that really matter, I've grown to also be reliably pragmatic simply because it's the most reasonable course to take when the ideal simply ISN'T and can never be brought to reality. Sometimes you simply have to make the best of what you've got, even if it's not as good as lemonade and just get over it already.

Being practical or compromising on what I'd prefer doesn't mean that my ideals are dead or that I've given up on them. It simply means that I also understand and respect "carved in stone realities". Yet, hope always springs eternal and that drive to bring about ideal situations will ultimately resurface as the harsh realities change the landscape, a spark of hope is noticed, and then again, the hunt is back on.

IOW, I don't give up easily, but do understand that half a pie is better than NO pie and a reluctant but necessary retreat that means living to fight another day is superior to bashing my head on a brick wall simply because I cannot let go of wanting to make it move to where I want it.
