only recently, historically speaking, that players were EXPECTED to be on the field and stand for the anthem. Apparently it was only after the US gov't started PAYING the NFL to hold these patriotic events that it became a standard.

While the performer, whether athletic or musical, may not have paid to build the venue, when they are having an event there, they DO get some authority over it...

Or would you say that a musician has no authority to toss a disruptive member of the audience without involvement from the owner of the venue?
