and we still have to be careful not to hit deer, and even have them wander into parking lots and even schools and supermarkets.

Squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and woodchucks about with the occasional possum and racoon now and then.

Mosquitoes abound but finally managed to bring them to their knees this year with a combination of chemically scorching the earth outside and high tech oubliettes that lure them in but they can not get out and perish quickly and quietly from dehydration and starvation.

We get some blue jays, cardinals, mourning doves, crows, the occasional hawk and seagulls when to Atlantic is going to be story.

The birds I find most impressive are the wild turkeys.

So who knew that turkeys roost in trees. I thought I was having a flashback the first time I was driving and wondered why that tree had so many large nests in it until they sprouted wings and descended in a cloud of Thanksgiving dinners on the wing.

    a flock of seven wild turkeys by our pond. We see deer and fox quite often, too. Loving it out here in the country... :)
    • and watch the babies grow up throughout the summer. They block the roads at times. Of course, they draw in the hordes of foxes and coyotes who prey on them and the bucket loads of whitetail deer.... more

        I've seen and heard a few coyotes, but I think the local farmers keep their numbers down. We had a family of Canadian geese on the pond that would come and go. It was fun to watch the little ones... more
