Even country rock works for me. Oldies too. In the right frame of mind, piano music is amazing as is folk rock.

I cannot listen to heavy metal music because it provokes high anxiety, high energy, and easily provoked, outsized anger in me. It does NOT mix well with my natural ADHD self. I am very high energy naturally, but the right music turns me mellow and low key (which SHOCKS those who know me, although it shouldn't) and heavy metal exacerbates my energy level into such high gear that I'm actually volatile and out of control. NOT GOOD. NOT GOOD AT ALL. I do like hard rock though. That's GOOD high energy.

Your recommendation for Metallica's "Whiskey in the Jar" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boanuwUMNNQ was too much for me. I felt the anxious, unpleasantly unsettled feelings rising and shut it down. Thanks though. I have a nephew, a couple of years younger than me, who ADORES Metallica. He laughs at me for how I react when AC/DC, Metallica, and their ilk comes on the radio.

Thanks also for the really nice, just folks type of conversation we've shared in this post. It's a good thing to see each other as just regular people instead of only as political "foes" or "allies". So, it's "nice to meetcha, Mr. Sprout". I think we'd get along nicely listening to what we each enjoy musically. :-)

      • I do like my adrenalin. But it doesn't have to be hard. I like bands like Journey and Van Halen that bring a lot of energy, but not the harshness of metal. I do like some heavier stuff, but generally ... more
