With Kim Jong Un, there is no point in direct challenges

because he is willing to go all out to preserve himself and his position, whatever that means. I don't think he WANTS to go so far as waging actual nuclear war because he and his entire kingdom will be wiped out within minutes. However, to do so is a game of "chicken" where each side goes to the edge of annihilation in an attempt to force the other to blink. NOT GOOD.

OTOH, if anyone thinks that they CAN "manipulate" Kim to get what they want, then they are playing with fire because he is NO fool and he's not really crazy, as in out of his mind, but crazy as in paranoid about his personal safety and security.

The ONLY way to deal with Kim is to acknowledge those parameters and to offer him something he considers of VALUE in exchange for something we value, but not to give it to him until we can VERIFY we've gotten ours. Anything else is a fool's mission because it will either bring us to the brink of war OR he'll simply play with us as his father and grandfather did for decades.

  • My point remains the same. We get further by manipulating him than we do by directly challenging him. The rest I don't think we disagree on much. Amadeus
