AmadeusElection Night Rumination...Wed Nov 7, 2018 1:04am72.35.36.179I think it is silly to think Beto O'Rourke should run for president. Yes, he's energetic, appealing, and popular, but he doesn't have the national profile. I think he'd end up undermining the ticket. But as a vice presidential nominee? He'd have the never-ending energy for campaign event after campaign event, he'd be a politician from a large, important state without pulling him out of any national level office.
I know he wants to take some time to absorb the loss to Cruz - he ran a great race.

What's the national significance of the Governors' races? SES, Wed Nov 7 9:22amObviously, the House and Senate races have national significance. But I really don't get why the Governors' races are significant beyond the individual States. I'm not sure how many House seats the... more
Redistricting & Gerrymandering is why Governors matter. Sia☺giah, Wed Nov 7 12:49pmhttps://www.rollcall.com/news/gonzales/important-connection-governors-congress
I hadn't thought about that perspective... Sprout, Wed Nov 7 2:20pmMy thoughts were that for a while we tended to get quite a few governors running for president. But it had occurred to me that we seem to be shifting away from that with more POTUS candidates coming... more Thanks! (nm) SES, Wed Nov 7 2:16pm Well... Truth be told, Obama had no national profile Sprout, Wed Nov 7 8:43amwhatsoever until he was selected to run. I think that is one of the reasons he won. He was able to present himself as a new face. As being NOT just the next Democrat in line for a nomination. The... more
Obama had made a HUGE splash at the 2004 convention Sia☺giah, Wed Nov 7 7:08pmwith his speech. He wasn't WELL KNOWN nationally, but he most certainly was known throughout the political world prior to running for POTUS. He'd also been in politics for about 6 years as a state... more I'd Like To See... Amadeus, Wed Nov 7 9:56am...a Sanders-O'Rourke or a Warren-O'Rourke ticket. I heard that Sanders and Warren were going to meet and discuss the presidential run. My guess is that if Warren wants to run, Sanders will not run... more
IMO the DNC tried hard to run Hillary Sprout, Wed Nov 7 11:57amessentially unopposed during primary season to avoid any negativit7y and was quite upset that Sanders wouldn't play along. IMO they will probably TRY that again, but as you say, there may be... more
I Think With Warren/Sanders, It Is A Bit Different... Amadeus, Wed Nov 7 1:56pmSanders v Clinton was a significant difference in platform. Warren and Sanders aren't as different. They would be worried about splitting the progressives in the primaries, and they would be right to ... more
Warren is a phoney progressive, imo. Poppet, Wed Nov 7 3:41pmIn 2016, she went running to embrace the corporatist wing of the party as soon as it was obvious that was where her personal political future would be better served. I wouldn't trust her any farther... more
Maybe I Am Not Remembering Correctly... Amadeus, Wed Nov 7 4:49pm...but I thought Warren held out for a relatively long time before endorsing. Maybe that isn't right, though. I don't remember it clearly. I would say that Warren is more pragmatic than Sanders. Not... more
Warren has some of that same...I don't now what to call it.. HeavyHemi, Wed Nov 7 7:25pmlike an urban Vice Principal energy. I don't care for Sanders either. HeavyHemi, Wed Nov 7 4:17pmLifetime politician...who would be an octogenarian in office...no thanks. He's got some good ideas, and some bad. (IMO of course)
His age is a real concern with me. Poppet, Wed Nov 7 4:36pmNot that I think he's not mentally sharp, etc. But that job ages people, and I could see it killing him (or hastening the onset of age-related cognitive issues). I'm not on board with all of Bernie's ... more I think the DNC is a bit more practical than that... Sprout, Wed Nov 7 2:13pmI don't think they are overly worried about ideology, but about WINNING... And if Warren and Sanders run AGAINST each other in the primaries they are GOING to end up telling the primary voters why... more
It's Not The DNC... Amadeus, Wed Nov 7 2:21pmThis is about the progressives recognizing that the DNC is not their friend. We know that if there are two really good progressive candidates out there, they'll split progressive votes. If the... more
"Progressives" don't hold primaries... Sprout, Wed Nov 7 2:35pmTherefore it IS about what the DNC does. Because it is the PARTY that holds the primaries. And until there is a VIABLE party known as the "Progressive Party" it will remain the DNC that matters. The... more
No, It Isn't About What The DNC Does... Amadeus, Wed Nov 7 4:43pmThey got slapped hard for what they did last time. Changes were implemented. The field is much wider this time. Many names are already out there. And my point was that progressives don't have their... more
I don't think so... Sprout, Thu Nov 8 9:09amThey got yelled at. But the "progressives" can't run a candidate without the establishment. Yes, they made some changes, but do you REALLY think they are going to give up control? The REAL heart of... more I agree... (nm) donk, Wed Nov 7 8:36am
