It's only the word of one experienced individual, but...

my wife's uncle is a recently retired( 4 yrs) immigration official. Started out in the Border Patrol (in McAllen Area) in Texas, held various positions over a 35-year period and retired at the highest level open to non-appointees. His firmly stated opinion is that a wall only leads to the sale of "one-foot-longer ladders" and extra shovels." Now, he's as RW as they come and highly critical of lowered hiring standards in the Border Patrol (about which I know nothing) but sees the wall as "pure bullshit" and the patrol people who support the idea as "lazy fools."
