You cannot seriously say that Hamilton thought that it would be best for a president guilty of various offenses to be protected by his party from impeachment - and therefore shielded from any repercussions for his crimes.

They likely did not believe that serious, patriotic Americans would stoop to such shenanigans.

Again, it is clear from the Constitution that impeachment is all about removing the President from office. But every citizen of the United States is subject to the laws of the United States, including the President. It makes no sense to seek to justify shielding a criminal President from indictment in a situation where he is being shielded from impeachment.
