Bob,

Sorry it took so long to reply. I didn't realize you had posted - I'll figure this site out!

I am compliling an OOB for another author and am trying to nail down every detail of the chain of command for each regiment. Pfanz, Trudeau and others show Tanner's name after Rogers, as you mention. But there is no reason of Rogers to relinquish command, ie. wounds, etc. So why is Tanner listed?

Chech http://www.gdg.org/Research/OOB/EicherOOB.htm for a very detailed listing OOB for the campaign.

If it seems Rogers didn't relinquish command I'll remove Tanner's name.

Thanks, and I think I've figured out how to check your response. ;-)

Why did Capt. Tanner take command of the 123rd NY at GB from Lt. Col. Rogers? I see no evidence of wounds to Rogers, yet most OOB's list Tanner in command after Rogers. Thanks
