The only information that I have on John is what is contained in the official 123ed NY Official Roster, as follows:
Baker, John - Age, 18 years. Enlisted, September 3, 1862, at Greenwich, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A., September 4, 1862, deserted, April 26, 1864, at Elk River Railroad Bridge, Tenn., as John W
Both Morhaus' Regimental and Jeffery Jones "Marching" refer his marrying a girl from Lincoln Co.
On April 5, 1864 the 123d learned It would be moving from the area. At Noon,on April 27, they received orders to move and by 5PM they were on the Road south.
