I was with HCC Co (Aviation) in Long Bien in 68. I worked on the helecopters.I have thought about a infantry soldier that they brought out of the field and posted him in our company. He worked in the control tower. They had some sort of reward policy to pull out the most deserving infantry soldier. A great policy if you were the one chosen. I did not know him to well and cannot remember his name. But I have thought about him all these years. He slept in the hanger in a small room off to the side. He seemed happy enough and was a beer drinker like most of us. I went home on leave prior to my returning for a second tour. Apon my returning there had been a attack. One of those stupid, long, inaccurate rocket that they like to fire at Long Bien found home. It hit the hanger, right next to his bunk. He didn't have a chance. It bothers me about all he must of went through in country, he lost it like that. I was alway lucky how and where I was stationed, this really brought it home. Jim Johnson 199th HCC (Avation)
