Are both fine examples of why oil wells, oil refineries, nuclear reactors - indeed any critical or dangerous industries - should NOT be located close to the ocean.

Japan, of course, has such a small land mass that they have no choice - but we do.

Yes, inland there are droughts, fires, dust storms, and other aggravations - but not the awesome destructive power of the sea.

The Gulf and Southern Atlantic seaboards are virtually covered with oil wells; but only a very small percentage of those are American. It seems as if everybody and his dog is drilling in the gulf - except us.

What do we do when some other nation's rig leaks? Have Obama make another useless speech of apology?
