My son has Down Syndrome, he is turning eleven this month and loves dogs. He is also very good with dogs, even when he was little he wouldn't run up wildly but would come near and check out what the dogs behavior was. If it seemed a little wild he would sit down near by until the dog settled down and then inch his way over to pet him. We have talked about getting a dog for a few years and have looked into several breeds trying to assess what would be the best dog for him. We have come to the conclusion that a labradoodle would be good for all of us, because they are very trainable and patient and calm and because they don’t shed. With three boys and one with Down Syndrome and both of us working we need to have a well behaved well trained dog.
When I learned about the Australian Labradoodles it seemed like they are more consistent in shedding and temperament and would be the best, except for the cost. We could afford about $400-$500 and pay for the shipping.
If this is something you would consider please contact us. We can provide you with other information or call and talk to you also. Thanks for your time and effort and generosity to people with disabilities. Sincerely Marla McQuiston
