Death row inmate appeals for another delay to test DNA

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Attorneys for Thomas Arthur have asked the
Alabama Supreme Court to delay his July 31 execution date to allow
time for DNA testing of evidence from his trial.
The court did not immediately ruled on the petition filed Monday.

A similar appeal filed last year was rejected by a U.S. District
Court and a federal appeals court. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to
hear that appeal.

Prosecutors contend DNA would not have changed the outcome of his trial.

Arthur was tried three times for the 1982 murder of Troy Wicker Jr.
of Muscle Shoals, with the first two convictions being overturned on
