Judge signs Haugen death warrant

Nov. 18, 2011

A Marion County judge today signed a death warrant for condemned killer Gary Haugen, authorizing the Dec. 6 execution of the 49-year-old twice-convicted killer.

The action by Circuit Court Judge Joseph Guimond came as the Oregon Supreme Court continues to consider a request to block the execution and order a new mental competency hearing for Haugen, who has dropped his appeals and repeatedly stated his desire to move forward with the execution.

The request pending before the high court was filed on Oct. 17 by the Oregon Capital Resource Center.

As of this afternoon, the Supreme Court had not ruled on it.
