Common sense

Regarding "Test the DNA" (Page B8, Wednesday), the article provides a perfect example of our government's inefficiency.

As soon as the ability to test DNA became available, it should have been automatically used in all cases, including any past cases that still have any evidence available for testing.

Since no one wants an innocent person incarcerated or put to death, or to have the real criminal still out in society able to cause more harm, it's a no-brainer.

Yes, all of that testing would be costly and perhaps time-consuming, but I'd rather see my tax dollars go toward that rather than the hundreds of hours of lawyers' and judges' time that go into appeals, asking permission to do the test.

Does anyone in government use common sense anymore?
