I have never stood to do any weaving as my back can't take it. I have a saddle stool for rush seats but have a couch of the right hight once on my jig so I can now sit on the couch. For the splint chair I did I sit on over sized cushions on the floor or for any chair that I need to flip over and weave the bottom. For all other work I sit back on the couch as I am able to pull my work right up to myself so I don't strain my back. I have found what saves my upper back and neck is to lift alot of weights at the gym for the upper body. This allowes me to hold my arms in certain positions as well as hold my shotgun ;-)
I couldn't imagine standing ever. I do most work in my livingroom in front of the tv and dvr alot of documentaries so I can listen while working. For larger pieces (generally wicker) I work up at the shop. as long as it fits thru the door to the house though I work here as I have the area rug to protect the piece whereas at the shop the floor is conrete and I have to use floor blankets. I also take off all old seats at the shop as well as prep all pieces to be worked on as well as zap joints or epoxy at the shop.
