You're welcome Kevin! Where a bouts are you located in Wisconsin? And can you come to our 5th Annual Gathering of The SeatWeavers' Guild at Old World Wisconsin in Eagle on August 3, 4 & 5th to meet everyone?
http://seatweaversguild.org/gatheringsAnd no, the paper rush is not a new material at all. It was invented in 1904 when there was an embargo against importing any rattan from China and the US had to come up with a different material to replace the rattan in the wicker furniture. Shortly after that, it was also used in weaving rush seats to take the place of the hand-twisted natural bulrush and cattail leaves that were used before the invention.
This man-made product was the beginning of the end for our wicker furniture industry here as you will find out when you read all the articles and pages on my website.
