Newbie Question about trapezoid chairs

Hi All
Please forgive if this is a common question from newbies (I did search but could not find anything on this)

I have some old chairs to re-cane and have studied the 7 step method in written and video format. I think I can learn how to master the craft of cane weaving and have 5 chairs to practice on!

The chairs I have are trapezoidal - the back has 25 holes, the front has 37 holes and there are 26 holes down the sides.

Using the 7 step method - I assumed that the diagonals would go corner to corner but with this many holes difference between front, back and sides I don't see how that could happen.

My questions
1 - is the 7 step approach the correct way to work on these chairs?
2 - do I need to worry about the diagonals not going corner to corner or will this just work itself out.
3 - are there other questions I should be asking??

Many thanks in advance for any guidance
