Weaving on folding aluminum frames

Hello all,

Has anyone had any experience using natural materials on folding aluminum frames? I was thinking of trying to use rush, shaker tape or even cane to weave on such frames, but I was wondering if the shrinkage when drying would bend the aluminum frames inward.

Any thoughts?

It will work with cane and wood/reed splint only if the frames are much thicker than typical lawn chair frames due to shrinkage. Shaker tape and rush don’t shrink so less concern there.

Gosh, just wondering why you would choose to rush or cane an outdoor piece like this rather than use the replacement material which is cheap and easy to install.
