I'm so sorry, I didn't remember your introduction, Mr. Stafford. What part of the country are you located in?

And in response to your question about making a living from chair caning, many of us have been at it for over 20-40 years, some full-time and some part-time! For many of my early years, I did the chair caning out of my home so I could care for my young children and still make money and contribute to the family finances. Then when the kids were in school, I leased a storefront in a small town and was there for 11 years.

After our move from southern Minnesota to northeastern Minnesota 16 years years ago, I have had a separate studio in my home again. And during that time, I cut back somewhat on the chair caning and was doing a lot more traveling out of state to teach seatweaving and basketweaving.

My husband passed away five years ago and now I'm considering selling my home and moving back down south to be close to the kids and grandkids. I am severely limiting both my chair caning repairs and basket weaving for galleries and all the classes in preparation of the move in the spring. I will need to do a GREAT DEAL of downsizing! I have tons of books, supplies and chairs to sell or give away, especially after being in this business for well over 40 years! Whew!
