Hello All!
My name is Ben Rollins and I am currently a Graduate Student in photography at Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta Ga. I really enjoy taking portraits of people as a way of telling their story. I believe the story is the most important element of a photograph to make it meaningful.
I am very interested in the reenactments you do and how you educate the public about the civil war through them. I feel that can be a very effective tool. I have a strong interest in history and the civil war. Before getting into photography, I originally wanted to be a history major because I feel we can learn so much about the current world by looking into the past.
I am currently trying to pursue a portrait project where I photograph men & women who are a part of the civil war reenactments. I want to photograph them wearing the outfits and uniforms from the reenactments but I will have them in a modern location, whether that be their house, parks, or public locations. It really depends on the person having the portrait made.
As a photographer, I do not just want to come in and invade these people's lives. I want to meet and talk about history with them while getting the photographs. I want to approach this project with respect for the people, organizations, and reverence for the impact the war had on the United states.
I am planning on starting the photo shoots next week so I understand that is a very short notice. Generally, each shoot would only last a few hours.
I would love to photograph anyone that is interested.
I look forward to hearing back from you!
Ben Rollins
