My reaction exactly. Desplat is a fine composer, and there are glimmers, but the Potter series of films is now gasping under the weight of its complex plotting, blue-black cinematography, editing out of storyline comedy, and 2 largely low-key scores. The film starts in a brilliant breathless rush then attempts to follow too closely the sag in the middle of Rowling's book, and the cliff-hanger ending, which could have been dramatic, is poorly executed (and Desplat's score is a major contributory factor). Left the cinema with one reaction: it will be fantastic quality drama on DVD, especially when the second part comes out.

Really disappointed with Elfman's score. Bits of Serenada and Red Dragon, but no bite. Suspect the film wasn't inspiring enough.
