“I’m not fcuking with her,” Eve insisted quietly, raising a glass amiably to a random man that had turned around to stare at the two heads, possibly having heard part of the conversation. “Cheers, sir,” she gushed cheerfully with a grin, pivoting in her spot and then backing up a foot to stand in front of Devon, their conversation a little more secluded now. Her grin dropped. “She seemed lonely, so I thought she might want a night out. Dante’s…capable of protecting her,” she reasoned with a flippant shrug, unable to come to the metrosexual’s defenses any further than that. He was an ass, no question about that. But she got some free drinks out of the deal.

Her eyes lowered her eyes to his glass, her brow puckering in annoyance. “Why do you get to drink?” she objected. “I thought the alcohol was ‘for the parents’.” She glared coldly at him. “I’m getting so much better at controlling myself; this is bullshit.”

“Eve, wasn’t the Planks’ youngest son suppose to come here, this year?” Adam asked as he, with his subtle limp, approached the pair, his own wine glass in his hand, the other hand resting in the pocket of his robes. Eve turned her head to watch Adam walk past, eyeing Devon curiously.

Before Adam could get any ideas and waste an introduction on Devon, Eve plastered a pleasant smile on her face and said, “Grandmother said he chose a school in Ireland instead.”

“Ah,” Adam responded, still looking between Devon and Eve curiously, waiting for his sister to introduce him.

Eve smile was now strained. “I know this might be awkward for you, but could you talk to those parents over there,” she indicated a couple with one of the shy third years that really hadn’t made any friends; the group of three were just standing uncomfortably in a corner—Eve suspected that they were muggles. “They look like they could use a conversation.”

“That’s what I’m here for,” he shrugged pleasantly, making his way over to them.

Eve watched him go, an idea forming in her mind. “He’s nice,” she told Devon, looking back at him. “Maybe Cassandra and he would hit it off.” Eve took another drink, liking the idea more and more.

It was Devon's turn to practically choke on a beverage - wine, why not? Plenty of the parents had a glass (or two), and he could hold his liquor remarkably for someone his size. But Cassandra? On a... more
