She was glad he was calling her Professor Locke. She had plenty of ideas about what Austin had probably told Chase, but was perfectly happy so sacrifice professional image for an improved relationship between a student and his guardian. She glanced at Austin, and back up at Chase.

"Austin is a really great kid," she started, knowing this system far too well to let herself sink in it. "I'm a little worried about his home life, though. If possible, I'd like to talk to both of you together about it."

She looked at Austin again, then back to Chase. "Students having a positive relationship with their families shows up in their grades, schoolwork, and extracurricular activities," she added. This was the part where most parents would decide to just chew her out and storm off. "I've talked some with Austin, and my greatest worry is that he feels unwanted in his own home."
