She smiled back at Headmaster Grace, a small, hesitant kind of smile. No wine today, it looked like. She moved to the chair, and took a seat.

More than anything she was worried that he thought she owed him something, for letting her stick around Pitts' all the time, and for being here in the first place. The whole school was full of warm beds, food and lots to learn - a treasure trove of everything she'd ever wanted. She claimed her bed like it was hers, and had even begun to accumulate a surprisingly large amount of stuff, not to mention some people who were kind of like friends, and someone whom everyone called her boyfriend.

But she didn't want to owe anyone anything. That was bad news, and she knew that. Especially an older man.

When he asked, then, she was tempted to lie. Just to make sure he didn't think he could trust her. But what if he kicked her out? Or did something else to hurt her? He didn't seem mad. When he muttered under his breath about Emma, Kim couldn't help but curse back under her own breath, "She's a real bitch," before realizing she probably shouldn't have said even that.

Still, he was just about the only ally she really had. And he wasn't threatening her, he was just asking. After a long moment of silence, Kim opened her mouth and managed to say something entirely true: "It was an accident. A bunch of his books fell on both of us." She had refused to answer this question to anyone else, ignoring the question or answering it with such a blatant lie that most other students just rolled their eyes and walked away. But she shrugged at Headmaster Grace, looking over the desk at him. "It was just a thing that didn't hurt until later," she explained.
