Eve could hardly contain herself. She ordered her usual garden salad, but also decided to indulge in a piece of chocolate cake for dessert as well. After all, her boyfriend made it on the list, while Devon didn't. She could just burst with amusement and joy.

Swallowing a cherry tomato, Eve turned to Devon, seeing as Cassandra had engaged Rand in a conversation, and said brightly, “It's really nothing over which to get worked up, Devon.” Picking up another tomato, she waved it to Devon's order side, looking at her twin as he contentedly ate some soup and a sandwich, “After all, Adam made the honorable mention, too. He didn't want me to mention that in the speech, however. He's very modest and shy about it, you see,” she said conversationally. She knew the worst thing in the world she could do to alleviate him torment was to lock him in a conversation, so she gleefully continued to at talk.

“That number 59...Cheryl Morrison, I think her name was, I met her whilst on that recruiting spree you made me go on last term. Oh, she's brilliant, Devon.” Eve nodded seriously, drinking a large gulp of tea and cutting a large piece of lettuce. In between swallows and statements she tossed over at Devon, Eve happily hummed Don McLean's American Pie. “She has this large library of books in her living room—kind of like your library of wine, but way more impressive. It's eerie, you know. She's a single parent, too. Raises three kids on her own, no nannies, nothing. And, she's dabbled in practically everything imaginable.”

She had never gone on so long talking about absolutely nothing with Devon without him hexing her, or her hexing him. It was a surreal experience, but she comforted herself with the knowledge that this was killing him. And, Cassandra had unknowingly helped just by not sitting next to him, sitting next to Rand instead.
