Maybe someone slipped something in her juice

Jered had waited, practically tapping his watch as Sarah tried to finish a couple last minute things in the Mercy Wing. Heaven knew these student utilized her facilities almost upon stepping on the grounds. She hurried, gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and they were off. It was odd, working together at the school they both went to. She hoped it would be good experience. No, she knew it would be. It wasn't like they'd see each other all day every day. They weren't working on the same things, although she'd definitely talked about the idea that bludgers shouldn't be used in practices. "It's unnecessary risk," Sarah said, then bringing up five or six different ways they could charm it to make it more safe.

He had humored her and she knew it, but even she doubted that she could sway him when it came to quidditch. "I read an article about a boy with permanent knee damage at age fourteen," she said as they found two seats next to each other on the second row of professor seats. "And that was just from falling after the Quayph hit him."

Jered squeezed her hand. Yes, he was humoring her. She sighed and looked around as Eve gave her speech. She seemed happier and less "let's get down to business" this year. Rand. 93rd. Sarah looked towards him, though she could only see his profile, and smiled, clapped politely at that and the Headmaster's own recognition. She'd noticed it earlier. She'd been reading more such journals this summer. Doing research of her own, something in particular for the Headmaster. She'd only skimmed the list, seeing Devon's, though she didn't know Rand enough for that to jump out to her.

The eating began, but Sarah couldn't stop looking at Devon. He was in front of her. In fact, she was framed between him and Eve, being able to see students between them. He didn't look happy. Especially as he looked towards Cassie. She swallowed, remember last year's conversations on this. She'd felt absolutely horrified at some of them. Now, she just felt for him. And Eve was prattling on about the journal, adding other names from that list. Sarah found herself irritated.

Sarah generally had a bad habit of thinking the best of people. It was something that had eased over the years and while she had always liked Eve, there were some strong memories of when she had sided with Isaac Harding. Times, in fact, when the Headmaster had more or less come to Sarah's rescue. At the time she didn't know the dynamics between the two, but she did know that between the two, the Headmaster was the one that took care of her where Eve merely passed down knowledge.

"I met Cheryl," she said. It was the first time she was glad to have done so. Dan generally kept up with many important wizards and witches. Or more so, his manager made him keep up with them. She'd been at a few fund raisers. "Terribly conceited. To be honest, I don't think she does most of her own work. She is rather brilliant about finding employees that are bright and willing to sign away their credit," she said. It was true. She didn't know a lot of people on that list and was actually glad that was the person mentioned. "I think there were much better candidates for her spot." She shrugged and grabbed her water, taking a drink as she felt her cheeks warm a little.
