“Fukc off.”

Eve kept her smile serene, even though she wanted to flip him off. “Good evening,” she chirped in reply. “Lovely night out, isn’t it?” she asked, walking over to him and sitting down, the book resting on her lap. She’d seen Ebony manipulate people time and again, and suddenly had a greater respect for how successful her younger cousin was. Acting like this was hard. Every fiber of her body was telling her this wasn’t right. One should not clasp hands with the devil and suggest a nice walk through Hell.

She tilted her head and continued to smile at Devon. “I brought the spell to protect Jael,” she informed him in a friendly tone, opening the book and finding the right page. “It took a while, but I think I got all the side-effects taken care of. She wouldn’t even know there was a spell on her.” Eve turned the book and held it out for Devon to see. Each time she locked eyes with Devon, her smile would grow and her eyes would shine brilliantly. She stared at Devon like he was her best friend.
