Adam had pointed the snow out to her that morning—the morning the students were due to head back home for the holidays. He woke her up, and through her blurred, sleepy vision, she had glared out the window across the room from her bed and promptly fell back down on the pillow. While she closed her eyes once more, she mumbled sleepily, “Maybe you could give the snow some fortune cookie insight before you leave my room?”

Nonchalantly, he dumped a glass of water over her head and began limping back to her door. “Wake up, Eve,” he called out cheerfully, “and come see just what sort of disaster the snow has accomplished last night.”

Still rather sleepy and far more wet than before, Eve finally followed her twin, donned in a dark robe, to the front entrance of the school. “Couldn’t you have just told me what the snow did?” Eve asked.

“No, you’ll see soon enough,” Adam replied.

“Aren’t you supposed to be getting ready to chaperone the students down to the sorting trees and getting them back home?” Eve suddenly remembered, scratching her head. She paused her scratching for a moment when she felt something stuck within the strands, and frowned in bewilderment when she pulled out her wand from the nest of her hair. She didn’t recall putting her wand there last night.

“You’ll see, you’ll see,” Adam murmured, finally rounding a corner to stand before the doors of the school. “Look out the windows,” he pointed.

Eve did as she was told and her frowned deepened. She couldn’t see anything but white. There were two very long, tall windows on either side of the large doors, reaching to at least twenty feet from the ground. Eve couldn’t see anything through them but a blanket of white. “Surely it didn’t snow that much,” she scoffed, blinking.

“We’re rather trapped, yes,” Adam replied pensively, sounding altogether unperturbed by the notion. “I’m not sure we’re going to be able to get out of the school today…perhaps not the rest of the week, either.”

“But what about the door near the…” Eve trailed off, thinking. “Or the entrance by the…” She stayed silent for another few moments before realizing in utter shock, “There are no other ways out besides these doors.” She gaped up at the entrance. Twenty years she’d lived in this building, and she had never realized that.

“Well…I guess we’re on lockdown this break.” Eve moved towards the direction of Backwoods Court and called to Adam over her should, “I’ll go let the students and staff know.”
