"Ah. Sarah," Devon smiled, when Sarah sat down. Yes. That redhead.

"Hi," Mary grinned, and put a hand forward to shake Sarah's. Friends, she was thinking. He was supposed to introduce me to friends. But maybe all his friends called him Headmaster. If they did, she planned on picking on him about it later. "Mary Wilde-Halberg. I'm really glad to meet you."

Devon realized, somewhere around this point in the greetings, that he had failed in his single purpose here. Sarah did not know who Mary was, or why they were being introduced. He cut himself slack in that he hadn't known, he wasn't used to this, and he grimaced in apology. He should say something, now. An introduction, of sorts.

"I heard how you saved that girl," Mary said, trying to fill the gap in conversation, looking a little confused but plowing on admirably. "Devon told me as soon as he got back to the room. He said you were incredible." She smiled at them both, and in failing to receive any cues from Devon, bit her lip and went on, "He says you're working on a patent. Congratulations."

Devon looked pleadingly at Sarah. He clearly was supposed to have made some kind of introduction at this point. "Sarah," he tried, as calmly as possible.

Mary took his hand, beneath the table, and a sip of cappuccino. "I'm pretty sure she's got it," she told him.
